| The checkup is an assessment of the individual needs of each patient. Such an exam permits the diagnosis and treatment of oral health problems as they arise. |
The exam will include a complete health history and vital signs. We will also do a visual screening of your mouth to check for cavities and gum disease.
Radiographs referred to, as x-rays, will be taken to give a visual image of areas we cannot see. We take a complete set of x-rays of all teeth once every 3 years and of the back teeth every six months.
Our office places patients on a six-month recall schedule, if they have a healthy mouth. This helps us to catch any problem while it is still small and many times inexpensive to fix.
This picture helps to illustrate the importance of the x-rays we take at your checkup. Notice the dark area under the second tooth from the right. This is decay under a crown that is part of a bridge. The tooth has also developed an abscess as evidenced by the dark circle at the tip of the root. |
